Draper and Kramer Mortgage's (DK Mortgage) commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) extends through hiring, lending, and giving practices in its branches and communities across the nation. Because of this and regulatory changes, DK Mortgage has worked to understand and adjust its local hiring and lending strategies.
"People seek to do business with people they know and like, and people who are like them and have the same beliefs and values," says Matt Rohl, DK Mortgage’s SVP of CRA development and emerging markets. “These relationships are why it’s important to us to hire loan officers and other employees who already work in the communities we want to serve.”
With Mortgage MarketSmart, Rohl can see the company’s loans in relation to DK Mortgage locations and overlay other types of data. These maps show him neighborhoods where they are meeting CRA goals and where they are falling behind. As he identifies an area where more loans could be made, Rohl uses the system to look at recent real estate transactions and specifically for loan officers having success in that market.
